I love it or should I say my DOGS love it! Made a batch of cheesy biscuits this weekend and the dogs practically flip for them. There is a wide variety of recipes and they are easy to follow. There is also tons of additional information about ingredients and nutrition for dogs. I will definitely be making more! The book is nicely bound and the pages are printed on heavy paper.
excellent & pretty. awesome damn book. fo anyone who complains about "fancy food", it's not that it's fancy it's just that it's healthy & takes effort but enhances life & longevity. this book is full of advice, explanations & easy recipes with a heads up kind of tips that are easy to remember because they make sense. best recent read, will probably gift to close dog owners to spread the excitement. order ur copy now.
I normally don't leave a review; but, I felt compelled to leave a review for this one. This book is so amazing! It has more than what I expected. I'm one to research everything so that my fur-baby only gets the best. So when I looked through this book I loved that the authors referenced everything. They even spoke with Veterinary Nutristionists at Cornell University. I spoke with a specialist there and they really are trusted experts. I also like how they spoke about their own fur-babies and how they use those recipes for their dogs. This book includes substitution ideas, nutrition facts, and sidebars. There is even an index for the sidebars if you ever want to reread the facts. Their chapters are so cleverly created as well. Their instructions are very clear and easy to follow. Some of them are repeated in each recipe; but, I like that so you can be reminded without having to find it elsewhere in the book. As an added bonus there is a bookmark. I would've liked to see pictures of the recipes, but the silhouettes of different dog breeds is a cute touch. And yes the ingredients are organic. Everything is either fruit or veggies. You simply spend a couple extra bucks to buy the organic fruits/veggies that don't include preservatives, pesticides, or chemical changes. But still be sure to give them a good rinse before baking with it/giving it directly to your dog to eat. Thank you so much to the authors for publishing a book like this one!
My huge Great Pyrenees needs gluten free cookies and treats -- so I bought this book. It is a WONDERFUL treat cookbook for dogs who eat gluten and those who do not. Every batch is a success. This saves me money because gluten free treats for a 173-pound dog really add up! It costs about half as much to make them at home with really premium ingredients. Thank you for this charming book.
The cookie cutters are overly large. The recipes are unnecessarily complicated. I have made organic dog treats for years. I own a dog walking/doggy daycare/pet sitting business and make treats a lot. Good dog treats do not require more than 4 or 5 ingredients. Most of the recipes in this book have a laundry list of ingredients. I made a couple of the recipes and the dogs did gobble them up however I have since went back to making my usual treats and the dogs cannot tell the difference. Also not fond of the use of potato flour, I like to use both rice and coconut flour so a small amount of potato flour does help provide some stickiness or glue but too much potato flour makes it hard to work with.
Now I don't have a dog as a pet but my brother and his wife do. Since my sister-in-law loves to bake, I thought I might buy her this book for her birthday. Apparently it was a success. My brother told me that their dog loved the biscuits and couldn't get enough. My sister-in-law was delighted with the challenge of baking dog biscuits. I think this is called a win-win situation. I can certainly recommend this book and I suspect that Jack (their dog) will second my recommendation.
Purchased for my daughter and dogs. They love the several recipes we've made so far. The batches yield a lot and can fit tightly stacked into a 1 at ziplock bag for storage. Do refrigerate or freeze extras as they are fresh and no preservatives they will go bad sitting on a counter.
I have made many of these treats. I usually substitute the flour since the recommended flours can be hard to find and are pricey. I use rye a lot. These are easy to make, most have few ingredients and most of the ingredients are pretty easy to find locally. I use silicone molds and they work perfectly. One batch makes about 30 treats using the silicone mold. All the doggies give these recipes 4 paws up!
