Well I’ve only had this book a day but started reading it already. Love the pen and ink drawings which gives it a nostalgic look but information is as up to date as can be for a book. I’ve lived in the ashville area for over 20 years and have been running a cabin rental for over 10. I may have to get an extra copy to keep in the cabin for guests and keep this one for myself. I’ll update it if I need to.
Good resource for getting to know Asheville and surrounding towns. We bought it to get familiar with the area before taking an exploratory trip to consider Asheville for a retirement home.
Had a great vacation. Avoid Gatlinburg and Pidgeon Cove unless you enjoy honky tonk. Maggie Valley Chamber of Commerce was a wonderful stop. Also Highlands, NC
Outdated, no pictures... Looks like a history book from the 40s.
We've referred back to this book many times in the short time we owned it. It will definitely be wore out.

All the info I hoped for and much more!
I did find some useful information about the area but I was not impressed with the overall layout of the book and the advertisements. As thick as the book is - a lot of the information and details were irrelevant to me.It is also too thick and bulky to pack and take with me so I will probably tear out the pages I might want and then toss the remainder in the trash.I suspect perhaps I would have been just as well off buying a Fodors for the state of NC.
