Whatever your connection to the film might be, the authors skillfully speak to all ages with this companion book. I am an adult but could have easily enjoyed this when I was 8. My knowledge of the film industry is limited to simply being a moviegoer and that's all. Whether you enjoyed the actual movie or not is immaterial, the book stands on its own to describe the tedious attention to detail and energy that goes in to making a film. The book interestingly illustrates why this film appears different than most animation, by describing in depth the medium of "stop motion" (and why it looks familiar to us 40-somethings!). Specific to the film, the book also delves in to the Japanese film historical subtleties present throughout the production. Overall though, the book captures the thought and labor toiled by the entire staff of this film to get it to final production. Authors did a masterful job. If a reader is curious about what it takes to produce a film, albeit, somewhat-animated film, this is THE book to read. There is a LOT to it, but it's addictive and can be easily digested in a weekend.
Exploring Wes Anderson's creativity through his books is always an adventure! Beautifully illustrated with interesting and fun notes of the making of "Isle of Dogs."

Favorite movie of last year. if Kurosawa had made a stop motion movie, this would be it.
There are such great interviews. I get to learn how the sausage gets made right from the horse’s mouth.
