Most pages are legible, but the text is speckled with blank spots, letters are broken and incompletely formed. In most cases the mind can complete the picture and comprehend the text, but it's a strain on the eye, and where pages contain unfamiliar words or names (like rivers and lakes) you may be at a loss.Some parts of some pages are practically illegible. I suspect the original document serving as the basis for this facsimile is to blame, however I suggest the publisher invest in a project to restore the quality of the original for the sake of this book. As it is, I cannot recommend this book to prospective buyers.
Opening this tome is like peaking back in time at our lost historical glory. 98% literacy rate achieved by Noah Webster? Perhaps yes. Hard to read by todays standards but the cure to dyslexia is in these pages. Some important moral value is imparted as well.
Love this little blue speller. Timeless. Homeschooling our granddaughter proved to be more pleasant and efficient using this book. Never too late to begin.
My fifth graders get a kick out of looking at this. We do a Noah Webster research paper every year. Seeing this gives them an insight into his passion to record and share words. We also use a facsimile of his 1828 original dictionary in our classroom.
Great little book. Since it's a reproduction, some of the letters are a bit difficult to read, but still worth it.
